Ponderosa Pine

Placeholder ImagePonderosa Pine is one of the most plentiful tree species here in North America. The Ponderosa growing range is from Canada to Mexico on the Western side of the continent. They grow very large and produce excellent lumber.

The bark is almost unmistakable next to any other tree you can see this in the picture to the right. The older trees are very easy to pick out due to this large plate like amber bark.

Like most pines its grain is straight and soft. It has a predictability that has made it a favorite of wood workers of all skill levels. It seems the only draw backs to pine are the way it takes stain and how easy it dents.

Once and a while we are lucky enough to receive some of this wood milled up but it is on rare occasions. Even though this wood is plentiful our source doesn’t have much for reclamation.
